Our experienced and accomplished trainers and riding instructors teach beginners and advanced riders in a variety of disciplines including Western, hunter, jumper, and dressage as well as therapeutic riding.

Our Instructors

Jordyn Bush

Since she was 2 years old, Jordy has been viewing the world through the ears of a horse. She has ridden and competed in both English and Western disciplines and loves sharing her skills to help students become great horsemen and horsewomen. Jordy looks forward to many more years of sharing her passion with fellow horse lovers!  Jordy owns a Thoroughbred (Ty) and an Appaloosa (Monkey).

Mikayla Fischer

Mikayla has been riding since age 8. She showed competitively in the Minnesota Pinto circuit, earning some of its highest awards. Growing up, her summers included mucking stalls and riding horses for June and Roger McCloud, where she fine-tuned the techniques she rides with today. Mikayla teaches hunt seat, Western pleasure, halter, showmanship, ground work, and overall horse knowledge.

Michelle Haury

Michelle is a PATH International registered instructor and enjoys teaching therapeutic riding to a wide range of students. She grew up on an American Saddlebred farm in Georgia and has been riding since age 5. Michelle was especially fond of trail riding but also showed in equitation, three-gaited, and five-gaited classes around the Southeast. She enjoys sharing her knowledge of horses and horse behavior with her students.

Maddie Kanda

Maddie caught the horse bug when she was 8 and spent a week with horses at a summer camp. Since then, she has trained her current sport pony, who she has had for six years, up through fourth-level dressage and show jumped him up to 3'6". Maddie is also an avid Pony Club member and earned her C3 Dressage specialty rating and HB rating a few years ago. She teaches dressage and jumping.

Kara Gail

Kara is a lifelong horse owner involved in everything from working as a trail guide to breeding.  Her current horse is a beautiful mare named Rue who is on loan to our lesson program.

Tom Rhode

Tom rides and shows western pleasure, western equitation and showmanship at halter in WSCA shows.  He is Special Olympics Equestrian Coach and an officer in the Red Jack Saddle Club.   He owns several horses but his 1997 American Paint Horse palomino mare named Bunny has his heart.

Bonita LaBat

Bonnie is the Placeement Coordinator at This Old Horse.  She is a dressage rider and beginner riding instructor.

Karen Duncan

Karen was a typically horse-crazy girl and spent every possible minute at the barn participating in lessons, Pony Club, trail riding, and regional competitions. She studied western and English disciplines and particularly loved equitation and show jumping. After a hiatus of more than 40 years, she has again immersed herself in horses and horsemanship as a retiree and has been a This Old Horse community member since 2015.
