Melman

(JC: City Delivery) is a 2009 KY-bred, MN-raced chestnut gelding who earned $15,010 in 18 starts.   Melman is a sweet and steady 17-year-old Thoroughbred gelding standing 16.1 hands tall. With his kind eyes and calm demeanor, he’s ready to be someone’s rewarding and low-pressure project. This handsome guy is easy to catch in the pasture and leads with quiet respect. He stands politely for grooming, including picking up his feet, and doesn’t bat an eye at fly spray or a hose-down. He’s been exposed to pool noodles and tarps without fuss, showing a curious and composed attitude toward new experiences. Melman lunges nicely at the walk and trot, both with and without a saddle. While he sometimes needs a little encouragement to pick up the canter, once he’s moving, he does beautifully. He’s had a saddle on several times and is getting more comfortable with the process, though he can be a bit wiggly during saddling. We have had a bridle on him a few times and shows a good understanding of rein aids. He hasn’t been ridden yet. We know he has prior riding experience and shows signs of being a willing partner. He’s content working solo or with other horses in the arena. Occasionally, he gets distracted by outdoor noises or activity, but he’s learning to stay focused. When he gets a little impatient, he’ll “wave” by pawing the air—a quirky habit that’s become a charming part of his personality. Melman thrives with a confident, calm handler who can help him continue building trust and consistency. He responds best to someone with a soft and patient touch, and he appreciates knowing where the boundaries are—clear, gentle guidance helps him feel secure and focused. He’s a wonderful candidate for someone looking for a gentle, low-key project with a solid foundation and a heart full of try.
